Sawkar Family Vineyards was founded in 1998 by Raghu Sawkar, M.D., whose life-long passion for fine wines led him to the earnest art of winemaking. The vineyards rest on the Western slopes of California's Sonoma Mountains at a cool altitude of 1000 feet - the perfect climate for the growing of grapes. RAGHU SAWKAR
Assistant Winemaker, Grape Grower
After practicing as a vascular surgeon for twenty years, Dr. Raghu Sawkar moved from Cleveland, Ohio to California's Napa Valley to pursue his dream of becoming a master winemaker. As a seven-year resident of Napa Valley, Dr. Sawkar studied Viticulture and Enology at the Napa Valley College for Winemaking and Grape Growing. Sawkar Family Vineyards was brought to life by Dr. Sawkar's skilled hands and he continues to personally maintain the vineyard -- pruning, fertilizing, and irrigating the land to produce the finest grapes. KERRY DAMSKEY Master Winemaker Dr. Sawkar acts as assistant winemaker to Kerry Damsky, a graduate of the U.C. Davis master program in Fermentation Science. Mr. Damsky shares a love of Indian culture and expertly enhances the best qualities of the Sawkar grapes.
